چکیده

The distribution of organic species is explored using data acquired from a new dual quadrupole system that routinely measures eighteen gaseous species. The process of condensation and its affect on gas distribution is modeled, and a new discrimination diagram based on total gaseous species and the CO2/N2 ratio is introduced. We conclude that organic species concentrations indicate source; that pyrolysis of organic material produces significant aromatic compounds; that Fischer-Tropsch reactions produce organic species dominated by methane; CO2/N2 vs. total gas plots are useful for illustrating boiling and condensation processes; and Cerro Prieto gas concentration are consistent with the gaseous species being modified by input of magmatic volatiles.

METHANE AND EXCESS N2 AND Ar IN GEOTHERMAL FLUID INCLUSIONS

Examination of thousands of fluid inclusion gas analyses has led us to question some working hypotheses associated with interpretations of N2/Ar ratios in geothermal volatiles. Fluid inclusion gas analyses, some confirmed by analyses of present fluids, indicate that geothermal fluids have N2 and Ar concentrations about 10 times greater than in air saturated water. Also, high N2/Ar ratios are as...

Organic Species in Geothermal Waters in Light of Fluid Inclusion Gas Analyses

Measurement of organic compounds in KarahaTelaga Bodas and Coso fluid inclusions shows there are strong relationships between H2 concentrations and alkane/alkene ratios and benzene concentrations. Inclusion analyses that indicate H2 concentrations > 0.001 mol % typically have ethane > ethylene, propane > propylene, and butane > butylene. There are three end member fluid compositions: type 1 flu...

Fluid-inclusion Gas Chemistry of the Dixie Valley (nv) Geothermal System

Hydrothermally altered samples from outcrops along the eastern Stillwater Range (NV), and scale and vein samples from Dixie Valley geothermal wells were collected for fluid-inclusion analyses. Fluidinclusion microthermometry and gas analysis by quadropole mass spectrometry were applied to establish the chemistry of the fluids trapped during alteration. Relationships between CO2/CH4, N2/Ar, and ...

New Interpretations of Geothermal Fluid Inclusion Volatiles: Ar/he and N2/ar Ratios - a Better Indicator of Magmatic Volatiles, and Equilibrium Gas Geothermometry

N2/Ar and Ar/He relationships: Fluid inclusion magmatic gases are measured using quadrupole mass spectrometers and the data is compared to measurements of volcanic gas analyses. Data reported by Giggenbach from active volcanoes give N2/Ar ratios in the general range of 100 to 1000 whereas corresponding Ar/He ratios vary from 100 to 2. Plotted on a Ar/He vs. N2/Ar diagram the data defines a fiel...

Gas Geochemistry of the Dogger Geothermal Aquifer ( Paris Basin , France )

The low enthalpy program developped in the Paris Basin provides the opportunity for studying the gas geochemistry of the calcareous aquifer of the Dogger. Hydrocarbons and C02 are mainly biogenic, He displays high concentrations. He, Ar and N2 have multiple origins (radioactive decay, atmospheric migration, biochemical processes). The distribution of the gases in the zones of the basin varies i...
